◎Minoh where you can feel a rich nature.

2-Colorful-leaf Minoh city surrounded with a rich natural environment is located in only 30 minutes from the center of Osaka. The view of Hokusetsu chain of mountains from the downtown is changing season by season and soothes our souls. “The Forest of Meiji Minoh Quasi-National Park” where many people visit through the year was designated in 1967 as Quasi-National Park with “Takao” of Tokyo celebrating “one century of Meiji”. The Quasi-National Park that is located in about 25 km to the northward from the center of Osaka and from 100 to 600 meters above sea level is famous for autumn leaves and a great waterfall. As the rich of nature still abound in Minoh, it is said that Minoh is one of the three richest repositories of insects in Japan as well as Takao, Tokyo and Kifune, Kyoto. It is a feature of Minoh that you can feel nature wherever you go. And also the Mt. Minoh has a long history as a flourished place where monks practiced especially around the Minoh great waterfall. “Enno-gyoujya” who is respected as a father of “Syugen-do” (Japanese mountain asceticism-shamanism incorporating Shinto and Buddhist concepts) practiced in the basin of the waterfall and when he died, he was raised to the sky from “Tenjyogatake” that is located in deep mountains of Minoh.

◎You can enjoy the view of each season .

3 Ajisai KatsuojiIn spring wild cherry blossoms bloom and the mountain is covered with new greenery such as Acer palmatum (Japanese maple). In summer fireflies come out in the vicinity of river. And also the great waterfall is a popular spot to avoid the heat of summer. In autumn leaves of mountains turn red and yellow making colorful patterns such as a patchwork. In Taki-mich (a road to the great waterfall from the Minoh Station) the red and yellow leaves reflect in the Minoh-gawa River and make a colorful world from top to bottom. In winter seeds of aucuba turn red and are so bright in a snowy landscape. Each season you come to Minoh, you will meet wonderful natural scenes.

◎Let’s go to the great waterfall walking along “Takimichi”.

A road along Minoh-gawa River from “Ichino-hashi Bridge” in the entrance of the park to the Minoh great waterfall is called “Takimichi”, and is crowded with a lot of people such as hikers, families and couples through the year. It is said that Minoh is derived from “MINO (a basket for winnowing rice)”, because the shape of falling water of the Minoh great waterfall with a fall of 33 meters seems like “MINO”. When you get close to the waterfall, you will hear a big roar of the falling water. It is so loud that many people look up to the sky searching for the origin of the roar. New greenery of spring, illumination of the waterfall of summer and snowy landscape of winter are so fantastic, but above all, the contrast between the red of maple and the white of the waterfall creates a beautiful view in autumn. Apart from the great waterfall, there are many interesting spots such as insectariums that is popular for insect display by art, Ryuan-ji Temple which was founded as Minoh-dera Temple in 658 by the father of Syugen-do “Enno Gyoja” who practiced asceticism in the waterfall and attained spiritual enlightenment, Ume-yashiki House where you can take a rest for free and Toujin Modori-iwa Rock which is too much large that it is said that in the past a noble from China despaired of marching forward and returned. Some restaurants and cafes which are renovated from “Ryokan (Japanese old style inns built of wood)” are another recommendable spot. In old days there were a lot of Ryokan in Taki-michi. As the Showa era began, the Ryokan which discontinued its business increased, but now there are new shops reusing the historical structures. Colorful maples that reflect in windows which are rare to find nowadays due to the progress of manufacturing techniques are unique scene of Minoh. In addition to Taki-michi, in Mt. Minoh there is a number of hiking routes to various interesting places such as observatory that you have to pass a steep path to arrive, historic places and more. If you want to know more deep attraction of Minoh, the hiking on Mt. Minoh is recommendable.

This rare citron raised from seed is served in high-class Japanese restaurant and used in various sweets and foods such as jams, marmalades, cookies, ponzu (sause containing soy sause and vinegar or citrus juice), beer and noodles.
